Krkonoše Aero Club Vrchlabí

A club with a tradition since 1947

We continue the long tradition of sport aviation in the Vrchlabí region.

About the club

We fly for joy, with respect for safety

The club continues the long tradition of sport aviation in the Vrchlabí region. Today it brings together about 40 sport pilots and runs its own flight school. We fly gliders, powered aircraft and ultralights, and some members fly aerobatics. Many of our members also fly professionally as airline pilots, and the club has produced military pilots too.

The club is led by a chair, vice-chair and committee elected for two years, together with a three-member audit commission. Flight operations, training and maintenance are each overseen by a dedicated head.

History

At Vrchlabí airfield since 1947

  1. 1947

    The club is founded

After the war the club picked up the pre-war activities of the local VDF club, which flew from the slopes of Jankův kopec and the summit of Zadní Žalý. The founders acquired the land for the airfield.

  2. 1948

    First hangar

A small hangar was built at the airfield.

  3. 1949

    Large hangar and gliding centre

The club applied to build the large hangar and founded a gliding centre that later became the flight school.

  4. 1989+

    The club is re-established

After 1989 today's Krkonoše Aero Club Vrchlabí was founded as the successor of the original 1947 club.
